STICK TO THE EDIBLE OILS YOUR GREAT-GRANDMA USED

Those that know me will be aware that i have been hammering on about avoiding refined vegetable oils for yonks! To my mind, they are a significant cause of most of the major disease conditions – diabetes, inflammation, heart disease etc.

Refined vegetable oils – also known as BDO’s – ie bleached and deodorised oils – are not food. ie. they are not recognised by the body as an intelligent nourishing substance (My definition …  as opposed to more commercially or regulatory minded definitions, such as that of the European Commission, where ‘FOOD’ means ANY substance or product, whether processed, partially PROCESSED or unprocessed INTENDED to be, or reasonably expected to be INGESTED by humans. .. WOW!

Anyway, back to so-called edible oils – the fact is the evidence is now coming in – they are inedible indigestible oils. Research done using Canola oil  (btw. this is short for Canadian Oil Company), with wee little mice, was found to produce colitis, and increased risk of Colon Cancer, Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), impair intestinal barrier function (aka. leaky gut) and increased tissue inflammation throughout the body (ref. below).

We can extrapolate from there, that it is also significant in autoimmune disease, rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease, asthma etc

So, best practice? Stay away from ALL Vegetable oils, mixed oils and so called ‘pure’ oils (they aren’t), and feel your digestion lighten up.

At home use organic cold pressed oils, sesame oil is great (unless you have a lot of heat), extra virgin Olive (EVO), Coconut oil (unless you are heavy or cold) and organic ghee (a miracle cure for many ailments)! Ask your cafes and restaurants what they are using to help get them back on track, and in the meantime avoid ordering fried and oily foods.
